EDIBLE ETHNIC BROOKLYN EATS

Brooklyn's many edible ethnic neighborhoods are yours for the tasting, smelling, and experiencing. Explore Atlantic Avenue's Mediterranean markets for spices, dried fruits and nuts, sweet honey pastries like baklava, Middle Eastern savory meat and spinach pies and vegetable spreads such as hummus (chickpea) and baba ghanoush (eggplant). Then it's just down the block to Carroll Gardens' Italian bakeries and salumerias (homemade sausage & meatball markets).

A short bus ride away is Borough Park, chock-a-block with Jewish kosher bakeries and appetizer stores - don't forget the schmaltz (herring) or challah bread! Finally, at the tail end of Brooklyn is Brighton Beach, featuring overwhelming Russian megamarkets that stock everything, from smoked sturgeon to kielbasa and from pelmeni (lamb dumplings) to piles of produce. Whatever you're craving, LUNY! food tours will fill you up!
