Open your ears and your eyes as you listen and learn about New York's incredible musical heritage. The tour kicks off with Old Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra, proclaiming his adoration for this city. At Strawberry Fields we share the importance of John Lennon's songwriting legacy and peace activism.
Dig the development of Jazz and Bebop uptown in Harlem with hard tunes and hot numbers by Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and James Brown; we'll certainly pass by the World Famous Apollo Theater. Groove to Salsa and Cha Cha by Tito Puente as we skip past East Harlem, aka El Barrio. No New York musical conversation is complete without riffs on rap, hip-hop, graffiti culture and break-dancing, while checking out beats by Grandmaster Flash.
Greenwich Village features Folk Music, courtesy of former residents Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Finally we end up on the Bowery, where punk rock was born - HEY HO! LETS GO! Understand how the punk rock revolution was much more than just safety pins and mohawks, featuring Talking Heads, Blondie, and the Godfathers of Punk, The Ramones.
