Professor Matt and Giddy the Bowery B'Hoy in Astor Place. Enjoy a pint of beer -or soda- and learn about the gangs of NY. From old-world saloons to gritty dive bars, all along the Bowery. |
HEY HO! LETS GO! PUNK ROCK ON THE BOWERY
A fascinating conversational tour that discusses the lives and livelihoods of the gangs and bands of the Bowery, as well as the birth of urban street culture, all while enjoying a pint or three at some of NY's oldest bars.
Learn about the Civil War Draft Riots and the Bowery B'hoys - the tough Irish youths that banded together and established their identity through fashion, slang, drink, drug, and the Sportin' Life.
Go from saloon to dive bar and from the cultures of the 1850s to the city of 1977, bankrupt and pre-apocalyptic. Listen to the stories about how street punks, fighting the musical tastes of the disco-decade started to craft rock and roll songs that were reminiscent of pop music from the 1950s - love songs about girls, partying and being bored teenagers. But these punks played these songs louder, faster and drunkener than before. (HEY HO! LETS GO! can be led without the pub stops.)
